Photography & video art exhibition

This year, kythniale introduces a new section featuring Greek and international artists who, inspired by Kythnos, have created visual art. It's an honour when individuals from different places are moved to create original cultural works during their time on the island. kythniale aims to spotlight these artists and connect them with the local community where their inspiration began.

In July 2025, Kythnos will host the photographic and video art works of Maria Bourbou, a Luxembourg-based artist.
During her summer stay, the island, as she says, “sneaked” into her heart. She captured timeless moments and emotions, offering a personal narrative filled with love and her unique artistic touch.

"Kind by nature, I express myself implicitly and being as well honest by nature, I am clear and spontaneous. These opposite characteristics can be in life and Art sometimes balancing or sometimes exploding. It is important for me to captivate rather than shock and I mix these strong characteristics of my idiosyncrasies on images with harmonious and powerful compositions.

My concern is to express my vision and thoughts on modern life in the digital world and to highlight the importance of Nature in our times, aspiring to create the portrait of contemporary Man".

Maria Bourbou is a Luxembourg - based visual artist from Athens, working across photography, video art, installation, poetry, and sound. Her poetic and experimental practice explores the human-nature relationship and subconscious perception. She has exhibited internationally, and her work is held in private and public collections. Bourbou is also the founder of Luxembourg Art Walk, an artist-run online platform dedicated to documenting and promoting the visual arts scene in Luxembourg.
